A Navy SEAL Team 8 member who died during a training accident at Camp Atterbury in Indiana was identified as 35-year-old Cpl. Andrew Stover.
The Naval Special Warfare Development Group, or SEAL Team 8, released a statement on Friday saying Stover was killed on Nov. 16 during an accident while trainign. Stover was a member of Team 9, the top-secret unit nicknamed the “Snake” that conducts U.S. special operations.
The group said a marine team, training during a live-fire scenario, suffered an apparent loss of control. On Thursday, the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service, known as NCIS, sent out a statement on the investigation into the death.
“An initial determination is that an incursion occurred between the well water and when a Marine made his first descent towards ground effects,” the statement read. “An investigation will determine if there was any breach in the well water and how it occurred.”
