Vaughan, Ontario (CNN) — Police are investigating the death of a man after a body was found Saturday morning, northwest of Toronto.

A resident called police Saturday morning when they saw the body of a man standing on a sidewalk, Vaughan Police Const. Andy Pattenden said.

Officers searched the neighborhood and found the body of a white male on the street, Pattenden said.

Police are investigating the death as suspicious and have not released any details about the victim.

“The events are still not completely clear, as investigators continue to work with our Crime Scene Response Unit to process the scene and gather evidence,” Pattenden said.

The body of the male is believed to be missing, but it’s unclear if that is where the victim is from, Pattenden said.

“We’re looking for the public’s help. If anyone knows the person who went missing or has any information regarding what may have happened to the victim, to please contact the Vaughan Police Service at 905-438-1570 or Crime Stoppers,” Pattenden said.

The death is not considered to be a targeted attack, Pattenden said.

Pattenden urged anyone with information to come forward, saying the incident is a “critical” matter.

“We also want to know that it was a homicide, so there’s also a lengthy process that goes into opening up a file and laying charges,” Pattenden said.
